Choosing the Perfect Venue

Questions: Is it within driving distance for guests, or are you secretly planning a road trip-themed wedding? Does the venue come with heating, or will your guests turn into stylish icicles by dessert? Will there be sufficient time for decorating and cleanup?Are there decoration guidelines/restrictions? Is there accommodation? Where are the nearest hotels? Are you equipped for a DJ? Band? Are there any columns or obstructions in the room that will block guest’s views? How many events might be happening on the same day? Do you provide any type of music or sound system? What type of electricity and power are available?

2. Bathrooms: The Overlooked VIP

You may be envisioning twinkling lights and flower walls, but what about...the loo? If your guests have to hike half a mile or navigate a rickety staircase to find relief, you might as well hand out compasses as wedding favors.

Questions: How many bathrooms are available? Do we need to rent portable bathrooms?

3. The "Weather Roulette" Dilemma

Outdoor weddings are stunning — until Mother Nature RSVP's with her own thunderous entrance. Oh, you thought the venue cost included tables, chairs, and lights? Nope — apparently, those are "extras." Ask about fees upfront unless you enjoy surprises that feel like credit card nightmares.

Questions: What packages or time slots are available? What exactly is covered in the cost of the space? What deposit is required & schedule of payments? Is there a fee if the reception goes over the scheduled allotted time? Is there a min or max rental time? Do you provide the chairs? Set up? Are linens, china, chairs, tables, silverware, etc. included in the basic cost? What style and size? Is Set-up and break-down included in the fees? Is waiting staff included?

6. The "Noise/Alcohol Curfew" Curveball

You want your guests to dance like no one's watching — but some venues enforce curfews stricter than a high school prom chaperone. If your venue insists the party ends at 9 p.m., it might be time to keep looking (unless you’re into brunch weddings — in which case, mimosas all around!).

7. Does It Work For Your Guests?
